Background:Theodore (Ted) Wesley Gruver was born July 26, 1906, in Councilgrove, Kansas. He graduated from Wilder High School in 1925 and attended the College of Idaho where he graduated in 1929. He also attended the University of Washington where he did post-graduate work in 1931. Ted taught Physics, Math and Zoology at Wilder High School from 1929 to 1934 and taught Chemistry and Physics at Caldwell High School from 1934 to 1970. Ted was married to Sylvia Gruver who was a 4th grade teacher in the Caldwell School system. Ted Gruver is best remembered by his students as a man of great character with dry wit who never expressed or displayed the slightest concern or panic in the face of even the most horrendous of chemistry lab disasters. He was a man of extreme competence and mastery of his subject and will be remembered with fondness by all who had the opportunity to be his pupils. This award was made possible by a financial contribution from Robert L. and Patricia A.
