William “Bill” Weivoda Memorial Scholarship

Background:Mr. William Dewight Weivoda was born June 24, 1945 in Killiam, Alberta, Canada. Bill was raised and educated in Canada until 1962 when, at the age of 17, he moved to Yakima, Washington where he lived with a brother and began working. Bill became an agent for the AMOCO Oil Company in 1967 and moved to Caldwell in that year. In 1972 he bought the local business and later operated it as American Petroleum Incorporated, or A/P Food Stores, presiding over the business until the time of his death on April 3, 2002. Bill was an avid sportsman, and a dedicated family man. He and his wife, Melinda, were responsible for sponsoring various youth teams and leagues, and he could be found assisting with coaching, transporting, financing, clothing, or anything else a team might need. Bill and his wife were decidedly supportive of their family and attended, without fail, those events in which their son, Mark, participated, from soccer to basketball. Bill was involved in Elks Club, and the Chamber of Commerce, and was deeply committed to bettering the community of Caldwell. He was a compassionate, loving, and generous man whose legacy will live on in the lives of those he knew.
